Someone shared their location on WhatsApp?
  1. In WhatsApp, tap the shared location so it opens in Google Maps or Apple Maps.
  2. Tap Share and choose Copy (or copy the link from the chat).
  3. Come back here and tap ๐Ÿ“‹ Paste, then ๐Ÿ“ Me for your own location.

On Android you can also install this app (browser menu โ†’ Install app) and then pick SafeRoute straight from the share menu. WhatsApp live locations can't be copied out, so ask for a normal location pin instead.

Areas to avoid

    Drag a box on the map over somewhere you want to stay out of (roadworks, a protest, a place you don't like). On a planned trip, only the part that goes through the box is planned again.

    Built from SAPS police-station crime statistics: each precinct's serious crime is placed around its station, where people live (WorldPop) and where activity is (taxi ranks, taverns, CBDs; OpenStreetMap). Of all inhabited areas, the worst 2% are red (deepening to the worst 0.2%), the next 2% yellow, the next 6% moderate. Tap a station for its numbers and rate per 100,000. A guide, not a guarantee. Stay alert.
